Certainly regarding the OSX Lion (in)compatibility. NovaMind 5 is a great mindmapping solution with several nice and unique features.

Expect a review of both NovaMind 5 (beta) and MindManager 9 soon! The reviews will focus on the functionality as well as how good the software performs during quick brainstormings, setting up and managing projects etc.

Re: MindManager 9 for Mac coming this month

I have made the switch to NovaMind 5 - much better product all around for my needs.

Love the layout and coloring options etc. Mind manager were trying to force me to upgrade a product that I had just bought less than a year previously because they couldn't be bothered updating v8 to get it to run on Lion.

By contrast, NovaMind 5 was already Lion compatible, and supporting autosave, versions, full screen mode etc (things that Mind Manager 9 doesn't even do!)

NovaMind 5 is still officially a beta release, but it seems stable and ready for prime time - I use it every day - well worth checking it out...

Re: Mindmanager 7 for Mac – Doing it the Mac way

That is a nice post. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
MindManager is an information/idea visualization (mindmapping) (software) application by Mindjet.

Hypershifters is an online platform where you'll find tests and reviews of visualization software. (Besides MindManager we've also tested iMindMap, mindmeister etc). Hypershifters isn't a software developer, it's an independent website where users can share information about computer supported idea visualization or CSIV.

Re: Hypershifters

How does your concept differ from Mindjet Mindmanager?

Re: Mindmanager and Mac tip concerning missing text in PDF exports

Charlie, you can't open the notes of the topics if the mindmap is exported as a PDF. You could try the 'export as Player (PDF)' function under File > export. Adobe reader is required to view these PDFs. This is ofcourse if you just want to view your mindmap on a computer without MindManager.

Re: Mindmanager and Mac tip concerning missing text in PDF exports

hi! i have saved my mindmanager files as pdf's and now, i can see the actual mind-map and text, but all my "notes" are mere icons and cannot be opened! is there any way to solve this problem so i don't have to create a year's worth of university notes?!
i use mac osx.
thanks!
crazy cat charlie

Re: Software Choices for the Information Manager

Opinions are always welcome Sander; your points are answered as follows:

It comes down to choice regarding what software product one uses. There are some really good information management tools currently on the market, and conversely there are many products that are based on the Mind mapping platform that should be thrown in the garbage bin.

In another article titled The Evolution of the Visual Mapper; found at http://www.visualmapper.org and also here at Hypershifters may expand for you the intents of this article.

The collage of images used within this article IMO continues to be relevant regarding products that deserve to be in the mainstream. Since the writing of this article, the majority of the products within the collage have made significant development leaps that have evolved them past mere Mind mapping.

Regarding your point re; “an application that does it all” hmm; I certainly haven’t come across a product that does that (whatever that may mean). The need and wants of the information managers of this century are evolving at an exponential rate, and products that exist within the development arena of Mind mapping simply don’t supply the business user with multiple formats for graphical expressiveness.

Products such as MindManager 9, the latest version of ConceptDraw office 2, DropMind, Goalscape and the excellent MindView 4, are a glimpse into the evolution we are experiencing regarding aggregated functions that have taken mind mapping from a single format into multiple format Visual mapping.

Turnkey is an older English term used to define a service or product that covers multiple applications and outcomes. Products such as ConceptDraw Office 2 and Mindsystems Amode are clear examples of the aggregated approach to products that have gathered the most used and best functionality for information management within the graphical scope of the Turnkey approach.

There’s much more to be said and written about the information management that has certainly evolved into Knowledge Management for sure.

Thanks for your comments Sander.

Re: Software Choices for the Information Manager

Interesting article Wallace. I'm still in doubt whether i'd like an application that 'does it all' or using two applications of which each is better suited for a specific 'mindmapping category'. I think using a big application with which you can do everything will use way too much power and it will probably lack focus as well.

Re: The Evolution of the Visual Mapper

Your suggestion is irrelevant to the body of the article Bob P.
The article was not about any specific tool used to visualize information at all, The list of contributors reveals that Bob; so your suggestion of planting a personalbrain into the body of the article would give focus to a specific tool; this was clearly not the purpose of the article.

I note you suggested the same at Visualmapper too.

Re: Top 10 Mind Mapping Uses for Students

yes, I strongly agree because it helps my work as a student

Re: Why the Visual Overview is Vital: Marcus Baur

I really love this visualization. Getting a handle on information is definitely important, but PKM is even more important because one can easily look up any information (raw material), but you can’t Google for personal, meaningful knowledge (how you think and act). That’s where visual mapping comes in very handy – it helps us transform information into knowledge by letting us contextualize information in a way that makes sense to us so that it’s personally meaningful.

Re: Top 10 Mind Mapping Uses for Students

Yes indeed this is an interesting article. I spoke recently with Toni regarding Personal Knowledge Management (PKM). We both agreed this is where the foundational strength for personal productivity for students may be realized.

I also spoke with my colleague Alexis van Dam regarding this issue of interest. All in all there's a real consensus regarding PKM. Toni's book Concise Learning Method (CLM) and Skills of Success (SOS) is a must read for educators and students alike; I highly recommend this publication.

Re: Top 10 Mind Mapping Uses for Students

Interesting article with a great top10 points.
